A New Name and Logo for Onkilahden Metalli

Newom

24.09.2026

When Onkilahden Metalli changed its name after more than 40 years, it also needed a new logo. Onkilahden Metalli, founded in 1984, changed its name to Newom Oy at the beginning of 2026. The business, production and team stayed the same. And the company’s history is still there – the name combines “new” with “OM” from Onkilahden Metalli.

The New Logo Was Designed by AD Minna Husa

The new logo was designed by Herea’s AD Minna Husa, who has more than 30 years of experience in graphic design. For the past 10 years, she has worked closely with industrial companies.

How Is a Logo Designed?

A good logo is about much more than simply creating something that looks good. The design needs to be based on an understanding of the company’s personality, industry, and the impression it wants to create. The typeface, colours, symbol, and the relationship between them all need to work together as one coherent whole – and the finished logo also needs to work across different applications.

In the video, we show how Newom’s logo developed from the first sketches into its final form. We also take a closer look at the idea behind the symbol: you can see a meeting and a handshake, the development of new ideas, the flow of liquid through piping and the act of bringing things together – all themes closely connected to Newom’s work and way of doing things. One symbol, with quite a lot of thought behind it.
